indian corn is multicolored because, according to natives of New Mexico, each kernel has its own genes, so-to-speak. thus, each ear contains a unique combination of colors; making indian corn not only aesthetically pleasing (and delicious!) but also symbolic of our communities.

leaves of change
in the same way that scientists do not fully understand why and how leaves change colors in autumn, we cannot pinpoint the exact moment in our lives when change happens. yet, slowly and seamlessly, things change and we are often startled by the results: some good, some bad, but never here to stay for one change always give way to another.
leaves may change from green to gray
they sky from blue to gray
a summer afternoon becomes
a sparkling winter day
people change and places change
and times keep changing too
